Hailing from the Romanian shores of the Black Sea, the progressive metal outfit White Walls was founded in 2009. The band is associated with genres such as progressive metal, metalcore and melodic metal. White Walls have mostly maintained their lineup through the years consisting out of guitarist Alexandru-Eduard Dascălu (Dasu), vocalist Eugen Brudaru, bass player Șerban-Ionuț Georgescu and drummer Theo Scrioșteanu. The fifth unofficial band member is Mihnea Ioan Grecu, the band’s manager. The original drummer of the band, Marian Mihăilă, has stepped out but remains a member in spirit.
White Walls often intertwine elements of darkness and light with relentless riffs, melancholic chords and a balanced mix between restlessness and restraint. Influenced by a variety of metal subgenres, the sound has been compared to diverse acts such as The Ocean, Opeth, Tool and Karnivool.
The band’s debut album ‘Mad Man Circus’ was released in October 2010 through the netlabel Asiluum.com as a free download. The record has been noted as a revelation and was incredibly successful among critics and fans worldwide, propelling the band in Romanian and an European tour (spanning 15 concerts and 6 countries). Continuing on a high note, White Walls were invited to be the first ever Romanian band to play at ProgPower Europe Festival in 2011 and the end of the tour saw them opening for Pain Of Salvation at Romanian Rock Meeting the same year.
In 2013, after having played Romania’s biggest stages and festivals it was time to go bigger than before. The band unleashed their second album called ‘Escape Artist’, a conceptual record that introduced a new musical approach for the band. The recording took place in three of Romania’s top studios, Next Dog Studio and NoCity Studio in Bucharest as well as Luna Recording Studio in Cluj-Napoca. To help them bring the story to life, they enrolled the help of a few masters of their craft: Marius Costache worked as the recording and mixing engineer, (same role he had with ‘Mad Man Circus’) while mastering was taken over by Mr. Alan Douches (known for his work with bands such as Killswitch Engage, Mastodon and Sepultura). The album artwork was done in collaboration with Costin Chioreanu who has collaborated with popular acts as At The Gates, Cellar Darling and Ulver.
‘Escape Artist’ was released on the 10th of October 2013, immediately generating a lot of interest and early ‘album of the year’ hype. The release show took place in front of a packed crowd in one of Bucharest’s largest live music clubs, The Silver Church-our first sold out event!
Almost 2 years to the date, on the 15th of October 2015 White Walls released a new single and video, ‘Death Follows Me.’
After 3 European tours and many local gigs, the band prides itself in having played over 150 concerts with some truly notable events. White Walls has performed at the East European Music Conference, as well as a few charity events. The band was also present at festivals such as Rockstadt Extreme Fest, Maximum Rock Fest, Posada Rock Fest and many more. Furthermore, White Walls is the first Romanian band who was part of the ProgPower Europe festival in Baarlo (NL).
Through the years the band has received great accolades which further prove that White Walls is truly something special: first place in Stufstock Newcomers, in The Battle Of Rocksin, in the national final of Global Battle Of The Bands, as well as in Best Metal Newcomer on Metalhead.ro. The band also received 5th place in the international final of Global Battle Of The Bands in Kuala Lumpur. White Walls played next to many big names in the metal scene such as: Deftones(US), Meshuggah(SE), The Ocean(DE), Symphony X(US), Apocalyptica(FI), Pain of Salvation(SE), Decapitated(POL), Haken(UK), Enter Shikari(UK), to name a few.
Currently the band is busy writing materials for the third record TBA.
